Novo Hopovo Monastery

WHAT'S THE WALK PROGRAM?

We start the walk by visiting NOVO HOPOVO MONASTERY. The place where Dositej Obradović became a monk and was educated before going to Vienna. We explain the differences between an icon and a fresco, how one becomes a saint, what relics are...

After visiting the monastery, we walk 2.4 km through meadows and fields to its older brother, the charming STARO HOPOVO MONASTERY. We'll hear stories about monastic life and the functioning of the monastery.

After a short break, we visit a small cave, one of the many former quarries of Fruška Gora, BELI KOP, which is located near the monastery.

We will then continue to the MONASTERY SPRING where we can refresh ourselves with pure water and visit the SULPHUR SPRING, which is very close to the first one. We compare the water and explain why the latter smells like boiled eggs.

After this, we return along the same path, about 2.5 km back to Novo Hopovo, where we will finish the walk.

HOW LONG DOES THE WALK TAKE?

The total length of the route is about 5 km, and it will take us about 3 hours with several breaks along the way. The route is perfect for children as well as absolute beginners and recreational walkers.

HOW TO GET TO THE STARTING POINT OF THE WALK?

- If you are driving from Novi Sad, you need to cross the Liberty Bridge and follow the road all the way to the end, until you reach a crossroads where you need to turn right. After this, the road leads you over Iriski venac all the way to the point where you turn left towards Novo Hopovo Monastery.

- For those who do not have their own transportation, or those who want to offer it to share costs or simply to help someone, you can look for a Facebook group called "Hajd na hajk" (Let's go hiking), which is intended for all nature lovers, to facilitate the organization of hiking trips.
