Winter magic, in our case, simply cannot happen without thermal pools. We believe they are essential for recovery after chilly hikes. On the other hand, winter is also famous for Advent markets — you know, mulled wine warming your hands while you decide which cookie to treat yourself to and which Christmas decoration to take home.
Well, somehow, we managed to pack all of that into this program! On the first day, we will hike to Sveti Vid and relax in the thermal pools at Terme Čatež, while on the second day we will hike Sljeme and enjoy the Zagreb Advent.

We will enjoy a relaxed drive towards Slovenia.
In the early morning hours, we arrive in the small village of Čatež ob Savi, where a gentle morning hike to Sveti Vid awaits us. At the top, there is a small church and a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the Sava River and the valley it has shaped.
After completing the hike, the main part of the day begins — a visit to the famous Terme Čatež complex and a relaxing soak in its thermal pools.
The perfect remedy for the soul after a winter hike!
Relaxed and fully refreshed, we head to our accommodation for a well-deserved rest.
Overnight stay.
ROUTE LENGTH: 12 km
ELEVATION GAIN: 800 m (mostly downhill)
DIFFICULTY: MODERATE
After checking out, we pack our belongings into the vehicle and set off on a new adventure.
In the early morning hours, we arrive at the top of Sljeme. After a short break and enjoying the spectacular view, we begin our hike.
We descend through a beautiful forest made up of a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees, enjoying every step along the way.
Around halfway through the hike, we reach its most exciting section — the famous Horvat’s Stairs, consisting of around 500 stone steps. This remarkable enthusiast built them by hand over a period of seven years, making it easier to pass through what would otherwise be very steep terrain.
Right nearby, we will also come across the charming Dwarf’s Cave, which is associated with numerous legends.
After completing the hike, we head to Zagreb to experience its famous Advent festivities and enjoy all the colorful atmosphere they bring.
A cup or two of mulled wine, cinnamon pastries, souvenirs, little trinkets, smiles, and good company.
And then, we slowly make our way back to Belgrade and Novi Sad.
See you on the trail!
