There’s this one place, the source of the Sana River, that keeps coming up in conversations. “Have you seen it? You know, it’s really beautiful. You have to go there…” So, we’ve decided to find out what it really looks like. Of course, our journey can’t end there, so we’ve also decided to take a drive through the Vrbas River Canyon, explore the waterfalls of Krupa, climb the famous Manjača Mountain, and enjoy our reflection in Lake Balkana.

We depart from NOVI SAD and BELGRADE late in the evening on December 11. The exact departure time and meeting points will be announced a few days before the trip. We then enjoy a relaxed drive toward Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the early morning hours, we arrive at the Vrbas River Canyon, where a beautiful scenic road awaits us. The meanders of the river lead us to the spectacular waterfalls on the Krupa River, a tributary of the Vrbas. We get off the bus here and set off on a gentle morning walk, following the Krupa River all the way to its source.
After our hike, we return to the bus and continue to the village of Gornja Pecka, where another easy and relaxing hike awaits us. This time, we head to the source of the Sana River, hidden deep in the forest, far from the beaten path and casual passers-by. If the trail is passable, we also plan to walk through the Korana Canyon in one direction and experience the true wilderness of Bosnia.
After our walk, all that remains is a drive to Lake Balkana, surrounded by a coniferous forest, where we can soak up the peaceful, idyllic scenery.
We spend the night here and get ready for the next day’s adventure.
ROUTE LENGTH: 14 km
ELEVATION GAIN: 500 m
DIFFICULTY: MODERATE
After checking out of our accommodation and loading our belongings onto the bus, we set off on a new adventure.
We take a short drive to the village of Lokvari, where our hike through this mystical mountain landscape begins. The plan is to climb to the highest peak of Velika Manjača, which is covered in a beautiful old-growth forest. We then emerge from the forest and continue hiking across vast highland pastures dotted with patches of woodland, passing the fantastic Velika Greda viewpoint.
Once the hike is over, we take a break for lunch and enjoy one last coffee before heading back to Belgrade and Novi Sad.
SEE YOU THERE!
