ONE-DAY TRIP – RUDE NICK
(Blagoveštenje Monastery, Cvijić Peak, Srednji and Mali Šturac)
The plan is to discover the beauty of the Rudnik area, hoping for a wonderful day of hiking. We will rise from a mine that is more than several thousand years old to the very roof of Šumadija. Let us recall what Karađorđe did that was so terrible when he came here seeking forgiveness, peace, and comfort. Let us become miners without helmets and dig into this Pandora’s box, full of precious little stones.
DATE: 15 November 2026
‼️ REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 10 November 2026 ‼️
ITINERARY
NOVI SAD – BELGRADE – BLAGOVEŠTENJE MONASTERY – PALJEVINE – CVIJIĆ PEAK – SREDNJI ŠTURAC – MALI ŠTURAC – PRLJUŠA
ROUTE LENGTH: 14 km
ELEVATION GAIN: 650 m
DIFFICULTY: MODERATE
Departure on 15 November 2026 from Novi Sad (ATP Vojvodina, around 6:00 AM), followed by a stop in Belgrade (near Sava Center, around 7:15 AM). We then continue towards Rudnik, with breaks along the way as needed for the group to rest.
We arrive at BLAGOVEŠTENJE MONASTERY, which will be the starting point of our hike. The monastery is beautifully hidden on the northern slopes of Mount Rudnik. Its roots date back to the 14th century, and it is best known for the fact that Karađorđe, after returning to Serbia, came here to ask the Church for forgiveness for killing his own father. We will also take some time to learn about lesser-known facts related to the Serbian leader.
After visiting this beautiful monastery, we begin our hike along a lovely forest trail with a steady ascent.
Along the way, we reach the PALJEVINE peak, where we will see a monument commemorating the formation of the First Šumadija National Liberation Brigade.
Soon after, we will reach the roof of Šumadija! CVIJIĆ PEAK, the highest point of Mount Rudnik and the entire region, was named after one of the most famous geographers from this part of Europe. Today, the summit is home to as many as four communication towers.
The trail then gradually descends before taking us uphill once again towards SREDNJI ŠTURAC, where another communication tower stands and where we can enjoy beautiful views over the Šumadija countryside.
For the remainder of the route, we continue mostly downhill, passing by MALI ŠTURAC, which once again rewards us with magnificent views. In its immediate vicinity lies the archaeological site of PRLJUŠA, which served as a copper mine several thousand years ago.
After visiting the archaeological site, we continue our descent towards the village of Rudnik, where our bus will be waiting for us.
Once the hike is over, we will have a break for lunch before beginning our relaxed journey back to Belgrade and Novi Sad.
