They say Budapest is the most beautiful during winter magic — especially when you are soaking in one of its many thermal baths. Usually, when this city is mentioned, the first things that come to mind are the familiar Balasevic trio: Vörösmarty, the Citadel and Chain Bridge — but not this time.
This time, we are choosing new steps that leave different footprints, new paths where one walks freely — without chains...
We will discover scenic viewpoints hidden among the Buda forests, admire the Danube meanders and walk the most extreme of all Hungarian trails… All of it accompanied by the echoing sound of czardas, chasing us as we levitate across Hungarian highlands — neither in the sky nor on the earth…

BELGRADE – NOVI SAD – BUDA – ÁRPÁD LOOKOUT – GUCKLER KÁROLY LOOKOUT – MAKOVECZ IMRE LOOKOUT – ERZSÉBET LOOKOUT
📏 Route length: 13 km
⬆ Elevation gain: 300 m
⚖ Difficulty: Moderate
Departure on January 23 from Novi Sad and Belgrade in the evening (exact time and place will be announced a few days before the trip), followed by a smooth ride toward Budapest.
We arrive in Buda in the early morning hours. Soon after the start, we enter the lush Buda forest and take a short ascent to the first lookout — Árpád-kilátó — offering a completely different perspective of Budapest. We inhale pleasant Pannonian winds and continue through forest trails beloved by locals for weekend recreation.
After several kilometers, we ascend to a former anti-aircraft base, converted into a beautiful viewing platform named after the man responsible for afforestation of this part of Buda — Guckler Károly. We soak in the views of the surrounding plains and gentle hills dotted with the grand architecture of Pest and several Danube bridges.
Next comes a descent and another ascent toward the scenic lookout Makovecz Imre, located on the third highest of the Buda hills.
One more descent and a final ascent lead us to János Hill — the highest point of Buda at 527 m above sea level. Here awaits Erzsébet Lookout, a tower dedicated to the famous Empress Elisabeth “Sisi,” who left a significant mark on Hungarian history. The view is spectacular — the perfect ending to our hike.
We descend by cable car if in operation (price €3–4), or those who prefer can walk a few more kilometers down to the meeting point with the bus.
Arrival at the accommodation and well-deserved rest.
BUDAPEST – DÖMÖS – PREDIKÁLÓSZÉK – RAM CANYON – DÖMÖS – NOVI SAD – BELGRADE
📏 Route length: 16 km
⬆ Elevation gain: 800 m
⚖ Difficulty: Challenging
Early morning check-out and short drive to the charming Danube village Dömös.
Right from the start, a steady ascent through forest begins, where in the distance the Danube occasionally appears, teasing us with what awaits. We reach the lookout Prédikálószék — a massive three-level platform offering an absolutely breathtaking view of the iconic Danube meander, the Visegrád fortress (once the capital of Hungary), and Slovakia greeting us from across the river.
We continue downhill along a steep, rocky path through stunning mountain scenery. After the descent, we enter Hungary’s so-called most extreme trail — Ram Canyon. The trail follows a beautiful stream and features metal ladders and handrails, making the walk both safe and unforgettable. Surrounded by cliffs and the sound of rushing water — this is a true natural wonder.
Afterwards, a wide path leads us back to the bus.
Return to Novi Sad and Belgrade in late evening hours.
