What is the hiking program?

We’ll gather at the gate at the entrance to the Stražilovo rest area. The first leg of the hike takes us to the stunning Velika Remeta Monastery, whose courtyard is among the most beautiful in Fruška Gora, featuring lovely waterfalls and a replica of the cave where Jesus was born. Here, we’ll take some time to rest, refresh, and enjoy the serenity of the monastery’s surroundings.

Next, we’ll continue across rolling terrain, through forests and fields, to Grgeteg Monastery, which is traditionally associated with the legendary hero Zmaj Ognjeni Vuk. We’ll take our next break here.

The trail then leads us to the resting place of our renowned poet, the Monument to Branko Radičević, a spot where it would be a shame not to recite one of his verses. After visiting Branko’s monument, there’s just a short descent back to the starting point.

How long will the hike take?

The total distance of the hike is approximately 13.5 km, over relatively mild terrain, making it ideal for recreational hikers and beginners ready for a challenge. We estimate the hike will take 5 to 6 hours, including stops at the monasteries and short breaks along the way.

How to reach the starting point?

By car: From Novi Sad, head toward Petrovaradin, then enter Sremski Karlovci. After the traffic light, take the first right turn, and from there, you’ll see signs for Stražilovo. Follow them, and you’ll arrive quickly. From Belgrade, it’s a similar route—turn left before entering the town center, near the traffic light.

For those without transport or willing to offer a ride to share costs or help others, you can use the Facebook group called Hajd na hajk, which is designed for nature lovers to organize trips like this.

What should we usually bring for hiking?

A smile, good spirits, and good health. Masks and gloves are not required in nature as we will maintain the recommended distance.

At least 1 liter of water, preferably more.

Comfortable and sturdy shoes with good grip.

Snacks, sandwiches, fruit, or lunch—whatever you’d like to enjoy in nature without guilt.

If you have your favorite hiking stick, bring it; if not, nature will provide you with a new favorite.

Hat, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen—whatever you feel is necessary.

Spare clothes for changing.
