WHAT ARE WE PLANNING?
Is there anything better than thermal water in winter after a hike? Since we’ve hiked a lot this year, we decided to treat ourselves at the end with a relaxed weekend adventure exploring the beauty of the Romanian side of the Iron Gates Gorge, along with a soak in the thermal waters of the Herkules Bath.

WHAT’S THE PLAN?
5-6.12.2025. NOVI SAD - BELGRADE - TESNA VALLEY - DEVIL’S MILL WATERFALL - HERKULES BATH
ROUTE LENGTH: 6 km
ELEVATION GAIN: 400 m
DIFFICULTY: MEDIUM
Departure on the night of 5.12. from NOVI SAD and BELGRADE (Exact time and location will be shared a few days before departure) and an easy drive toward Romania.
Early in the morning, we arrive at Domogled-Valea Cernei National Park, where we’ll take a short but scenic path through TESNA VALLEY to the so-called DEVIL’S MILL WATERFALL.
We’ll have the opportunity to follow the Tasna River, hike along the edges of its steep canyon, and admire the groove it has carved into the mountain… Ending with a visit to the mystical Devil’s Mill and its waterfall, surrounded by many legends.
After the hike, we head to our accommodation and prepare for a relaxing thermal soak for the rest of the day.

We pack up and begin exploring the Romanian side of the Iron Gates Gorge…
Our first stop will be at the famous DECEBAL HEAD, carved into a 50m-tall rock. This spot may remind many of scenes from “The Lord of the Rings”!
The adventure continues with visits to the CIUCARU MIC and MARE VIEWPOINTS, the most renowned part of the Iron Gates National Park. We’ll enjoy surreal views of the gorge and its powerful cliffs, imagining how it must have been for the ancient Romans cutting their path through here…
After the hike, we’ll return to BELGRADE and NOVI SAD.
WHAT DO WE USUALLY BRING ON A HIKE?
•A smile, good spirits, and good health.
•Plenty of water, at least 2L for each hike, snacks for multiple meals, and refreshments for the hikes and ascents ahead.
•Comfortable, sturdy, suitable shoes for hiking, and comfortable clothing.
•If you have a favorite hiking pole, bring it; if not, nature may hide your new favorite.
•A cap/hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, or anything else to protect you in case of strong sun.
•A raincoat, spare/change of clothes, warm and dry layers within reach after each hike.
IMPORTANT NOTES
•Registration will be limited, and only members of HTS MOUNTAINEERING SOCIETY (ID: 28748817) (Contact us for details on membership and purchasing tags for 2025) or any society within the PSS network may join.
•Fee: 4500 RSD (for transport, paid to the organization at registration) and 60 EUR (paid during the trip for accommodation, parking, tolls).
•The fee DOES NOT cover entry tickets to Domogled-Valea Cernei National Park (2 EUR).
•Organizers reserve the right to change the itinerary due to unforeseen circumstances, restricted access to certain sections, or trip cancellation.
•Please provide the number of people, their names, phone numbers, and departure location, along with membership confirmation upon registration. Due to the proximity of the event, cancellations and refunds won’t be possible after registration and payment, but replacement of a registered person is allowed.
•Travel protection in line with Article 86, Paragraph 3 of the Tourism Law is NOT provided for this trip.
•This trip is NOT recommended for those with heart or other health issues that could be adversely affected by physical activity.
•Please be PRECISE AND PUNCTUAL with departure times, though we ask for some flexibility regarding hike duration.
